Essayer is a french first group verb. So it follow the regular conjugation pattern of the first group like:

However, although the terminations are perfectly regular, stem can be irregular and have numerous variations.
Essayer is conjugated the same way that verbs that end in :
-ayer.
Verbs ending in
-yer may transform the stem letter
« y » in
« i » before a silent endings.

Essayer is conjugated to the passive voice. Passive voice is a grammatical voice common in many languages. In a clause with passive voice, the grammatical subject expresses the theme or patient of the main verb – that is, the person or thing that undergoes the action or has its state changed. « t » is added to the pronoun of the third person:

« elles » except when the verb ends with
« t » or
« d »:

« aura-t-elle été essayée ? ».
Finally, the interrogative form does not exist in subjunctive and imperative.
